How to Avoid Common Travel Errors

Make Your Trip Even Easier

There’s nothing worse than making a mistake that could have been avoided - especially when you’re on vacation or a business trip. Travel errors are all too common and can easily add unwanted stress to your trip. That’s why our PHL Airport parking company is here with some tips for avoiding them:

Double-Check Your Dates

This may sound like a no-brainer, but traveling can be hectic and it’s not as hard as you think to mix up dates. Before you set off for your flight, head to your booked hotel, or even show up at the car rental counter, double-check the dates on your reservation. This is especially important if you’re traveling to Europe, where they write the date as day/month/year instead of the month/day/year format Americans are used to.

Read the Fine Print

Before you pay for anything, make sure you read the fine print. While you may think you’re paying a certain price for something like a vacation home rental or cell phone charges, you could end up with a larger bill than expected because of some fine-print factors you overlooked. In addition, be wary of things that may seem like they’re complimentary (like the snacks or drinks in a hotel room) - often times, they’re not.

Figure out Your Layover

If you don’t book airfare often, it can be easy to overlook the details of a layover before you hit “Buy.” Pay attention to how long the layover is and if your flight lands the next day (often depicted by a “+1”). This can save you from having to spend hours and hours in the airport waiting for your next flight and instead, you can book a flight with a more convenient time.

Relay Your Flight Information

If you’ve made a car rental reservation for when you arrive at your destination, make sure you relay your flight information to the rental company (including your airline and flight number). This way, if your flight is delayed, the rental company can hold your reservation. If you don’t let them know your flight information, they’ll likely give away your reservation and force you to rebook at a higher price once you arrive.

Use More Than One Map

While apps like Google Maps and Apple Maps can be helpful, they can also be wrong sometimes. If you’re in an unfamiliar area and are trying to get to a destination, don’t rely on just one map - you could end up driving down a road not meant for cars, arrive at a location that’s no longer there, or even end up somewhere else entirely. Instead, pool together several different map resources so you know exactly where to go. You could even try an old-fashioned paper map!
