Top 6 European Vacations

Our PHL Airport parking facility sees many travelers come through our doors, and over the years, we’ve found that Europe is one of the most visited areas they are traveling to. We decided to take a survey to see which European cities are considered the best places to go. Here’s what we discovered:

Paris

Known as one of the most romantic locations in Europe, Paris is the perfect place to go if you’re celebrating an anniversary, planning a honeymoon, or simply want an intimate getaway. With nearly endless streets of elegant architecture, breathtaking sights like the Eiffel Tower and the Notre-Dame Cathedral, and tons of exquisite restaurants, you’ll be swept away in no time.

Budget-friendly tip: If you plan on seeing museums like the Louvre, the Musee d’Orsay, and more, consider the museum pass. It’s good for over 50 museums in Paris and can help you save a lot of money.

London

Want to go to Europe but don’t know a second language? Stick to England, where you won’t have to worry about translations. In London, you can discover over 2,000 years of history, visit famous landmarks like Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London, and get a taste of how royalty lives.

Budget-friendly tip: Many of London’s hotels are overpriced, so do your research before you book your stay. Also, consider hostels and bed & breakfast options.

Barcelona

Barcelona is a great place to visit if you’re looking for something out-of-the-ordinary. Not only will you find abnormally shaped architecture and colorful walls, you’ll also find that life in Barcelona is always bustling - from its popular beaches to its variety of restaurants to its exciting nightlife. This is a place you could easily spend a week exploring.

Budget-friendly tip: In Spain, lunch is a bigger deal than dinner, so look for cafes and little restaurants that have set lunch menus - often times you’ll get a three-course meal, bread, and wine for much lower than a price you’d pay for dinner.

Rome

Another city known for its romance, Rome is the perfect place to explore with your significant other. Supposedly founded on Roman mythology, this city is bursting with magic. Take a trip to Vatican City, relive the gladiator fights at the Colosseum, and indulge in classic Italian wine and cuisine.

Budget-friendly tip: Consider staying in a hotel outside of Rome and taking the Metro into the city. You’ll find that accommodations are around half the price.

Madrid

If an artsy, laid-back atmosphere sounds like the perfect setting for a vacation, consider heading to Madrid. Here, you can discover authentic Spanish music, vibrant flamenco dancers, famous paintings and drawings, and beautiful architecture. Throughout the years, the city of Madrid has become an urban delight that preserves its roots and traditions.

Budget-friendly tip: Madrid is most popular in July and August, so if you want to avoid all the tourists and pay less for your stay and airfare, plan a trip in the winter or spring.

Istanbul

When you think of European getaways, Istanbul probably isn’t one that comes to mind right away. However, it’s a wonderful place that is rich with history. Formerly known as Constantinople, Istanbul was once the capital of both they Byzantine Empire and the Ottoman Empire. You’ll find beautiful palaces, bustling markets and bazaars, quaint shops, and an intriguing mix of modern and historic architecture.

Budget-friendly tip: Istanbul relies heavily on public transportation, and you can save a lot of money by buying a pre-paid, discounted transportation card called an Istanbul Kart.
